Tips and Tricks For Thai Cooking
1 Banana leaves are widely used in Asian cooking, from adding flavors to food cooked inside them, to simply being used as a serving base.
2 Lemon grass is an essential ingredient in Thai cooking. Make sure you have one.
3 Curries, sauces and spices are the important ingredient of Thai cooking as well. You can find their recipes in Curries section.
4 Make sure you have all the ingredients ready, before you start cooking.
5 A wok is the one piece of cooking equipment you may need before you start cooking the Thai food.
6 When adding oil for stir-frying, drizzle the oil down the sides of the wok.
7 Galangal is widely used in Thai cooking, if you don't find it, you can substitute it with ginger.
8 Kaffir lime leaves plays an important role in Thai cooking, if you don't find it, substitute it with lime zest.
9 Tofu is very often used in Thai cooking. For stir-frying or deep-frying, always use firm or extra-firm tofu.
10 When making non-vegetarian food, always marinate fresh meat.
11 A pestle and mortar made from stone or pottery is also commonly used for pounding and grinding spices and herbs.
12 A rice cooker is an invaluable appliance to have when cooking Thai food. If you don't have one, just go with simple stainless steel pot with a lid.
13 To tone down a dish that is too spicy, or coconut milk, yogurt or little sugar to it.
14 To balance the dish that is too salty, add lime juice, lemon juice or tamarind water.
15 During stir-frying, don't overcook the vegetables, so that the vegetables retain their essential vitamins and nutrients.
