| Method |
Wash dal and rice well, drain and set aside.
Heat oil or ghee in a pan over medium-high heat, add cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaf and cardamom and let them splutter, now add onions and cook until light brown, now add green chilies and ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 minute, now add turmeric powder and tomatoes and cook for 2 minutes, until oil comes out on the surface, now add dal, rice, salt and 4 + 1/2 cups of water, stir, bring to a boil, cover and cook over low heat, until rice and dal are cooked and all the water is absorbed, let it cool. Garnish it with chopped coriander and ghee or butter and serve.
