Dal Tadka

Ingredients
1 Tuar dal [arhar dal] 1 cup
2 Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon
3 Bay leaf 1
4 Garlic, finely chopped 4 cloves
5 Whole dried red chilies 2
6 Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon
7 Red chili powder 1/2 teaspoon
8 Salt to taste
9 Clarified butter[ghee] or oil 2 tablespoons
10 Green coriander leaves, finely chopped 2 tablespoons
Method
Wash dal well, transfer into the pressure cooker, add 4 cups of water, salt and turmeric powder and pressure cook for 2 whistles. Let it open. Heat oil or butter in a pan over medium heat, add cumin, whole red chilies, bay leaf and garlic and let it splutter, now add red chili powder, stir. Now pour this tadka into the cooked dal, stir. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Tadka dal is a specialty of Northern India, a simple everyday dal dish, served with steamed white rice or rotis (indian flat breads). This Dal is one of the quickest I ever make! I hope You will love it.
