Ingredients
1 Whole urad 200 grams
2 Green chilies, finely chopped 3
3 Onions, finely chopped 3
4 Garlic, finely chopped 4 cloves
5 Ginger, finely grated 1 teaspoon
6 Whole red chilies 2
7 Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon
8 Asafetida [heeng] a pinch
9 Red chili powder 1/2 teaspoon
10 Clarified butter [ghee] 2 tablespoons
11 Salt to taste
12 Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped 2 tablespoons
Method
Wash and soak urad in water for at least 4 hours. Rinse, put it in pressure cooker with water and pressure cook for 4 whistles, let it open. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and whole red chilies, and let it splutter, now add ginger, garlic, chopped green chilies and onions and saute them until light brown. Now add dal, stir and cook for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve.
